Derek, a visual learner and active 12 year old, is sentence to Learning Center Camp by parents concerned about his reading ability.  He discovers a newspaper clipping in his attic about the drowning of a teenage girl and is determined to learn the rest of the story.  Derek’s quit wit and spontaneity keep the reader engaged, but it is the underlying messages of honesty and kindness that will resonate with readers long after the book is done.
